Late night shopping - the swimsuit edition

Even though we’re finally starting to see some cooler weather here (I even woke up snuggled right down under the doona this morning, which made a nice change from sweating on top of it), my online browsing lately has consisted of 80% swimwear. It might be that I’ve just entered Miss Cooly Rocks on for 2015 and I’m starting to dream of the outfits I’d wear if I am lucky enough to be chosen as a finalist, or it might be that some of my friends are spending their upcoming Saturday afternoon floating in a pool of giant candy-inflatables at Sherbert Birdie’s pool party…

Anyway, here are some of my drool-worthy, wishlist items:

Bathing beauty suit from Modcloth
I have a thing about lobster print (I missed out on a Dangerfield lobster dress once and I’ve never gotten over it). Anyways, I love this suit so much – though if anyone sees something similar in white with red lobsters, let me know because I’d be all over that.

Fancy Dip One piece from Modcloth

I don’t think I’d ever get away with this suit, but there’s something about it that screams 70s movie star to me. It’d look awesome with a big floppy hat like this one from Unique Vintage:

Retro style pleated hat from Unique Vintage

Dive for excellence bikini in banana print from Modcloth

I can’t eat bananas in real life, but I do like them as a print (as long as it’s not scratch ‘n’ sniff). This suit is super cute and if I bought it, I’d be immediately asking Honey Cub to find me a banana print material and make me a headscarf to match!

And then there are accessories.

Cream retro swimcap from Unique Vintage
When I used to do swimming training, I hated my cap. This cap, however, I love.

Crab print tote from Unique Vintage

This bag is awesome and would go with the crustacean theme of the lobster suit

Quay black thick Monroe sunglasses from Unique Vintage

And lastly, I think these sunnies would look rad with the 70s swimsuit!

With so many choices, I'm not actually sure what I'll pick if I do get into Miss Cooly. What do you guys think? And are you going to enter this year? There's still time, check out the Miss Cooly Rocks On Facebook for details.

Late Night Shopping – The boot edition

I’m still dreaming of colder weather and a trip to the shops this week hasn’t done anything to ease that! A browse in the shoe shops which was supposed to be me looking for pageant shoes turned into me wanting to buy about 65000 pairs of boots.

Before I share my favourite boots at the moment, I just want to add a quick disclaimer about my links to shopping sites. For this particular post, the only shopping site I get any sort of compensation from is ModCloth. As an affiliate, I get a tiny commission if you purchase something after clicking through to their site from my blog. This doesn't affect your sale, the price of what you buy or anything like that, it just gives me a little love for passing you on. When it comes to ModCloth, I spend a lot of time looking through their very extensive site, and I love sharing the awesome stuff they stock, so the commission is really just a bonus.

I'm affiliated with a couple of sites, and all of them are listed in the sidebar. If you're considering buying from any of these retailers, I'd love for you to show that you've come via my blog by clicking on the banner ads (and that doesn't mean you have to buy what I've recommended either, just click the link and your browsing experience will be exactly the same and you can buy whatever you like!).

And that's all I'll say about affiliate programs for now. For the other sites, these are just boots that I've found by trawling through websites and wanted to save you guys some of that trawling time!

Short boots
I never used to wear short boots because I thought they made me look chunky. Now I think there are a lot more varieties and styles around that I don’t think that’s the case. Here are some of my picks:

Stud ankle boots from Target Australia
I actually have a pair that's very similar to this, and they're comfy and great for rainy days. They scream tough girl and would go great with tights or jeans, but I actually like the contrast of wearing them with pretty dresses.

Tour date bootie from Modcloth
I love lace up boots, I think they look best with my coloured tights. These are super cute and a good neutral colour.

A lotus to love bootie from Modcloth
I have absolutely no idea where I'd wear these, but aren't they pretty?

Berry boots from Rivers

These berry boots would look so great with mustard tights! I think I might have to get a pair.

Docs
God I love Docs. When I was twelve I begged my parents for a pair of Docs. Mostly, I wanted them because everyone else had them, but I promised my mum if she got them for me, they would last. In general, we didn’t ever get to keep up with the Joneses, but for my thirteenth birthday, I got the best pair of shoes ever, black Docs.

I’ll turn 33 towards the end of this year and guess what? I still wear those Docs. So yes, Mum, I didn’t lie, they really did last.Unfortunately, I don’t think modern Docs are made in England any more and the quality isn’t as good. But the prints? Are fabulous.

Long Boots
I tend towards brown or grey boots over black with long ones because I feel they can look a bit heavy. That’s just personal opinion though, and all this being said, I do tend to wear the boots I bought for my Black Widow costume a lot during the winter with all types of dresses. I think it’s whatever mood strikes me when I’m getting dressed, really.

London Rebel 'Bamboo' style from Famous Footwear
I really like slouchy boots, and these ones might make it onto my shopping list.

'Femya' napa leather boots in tan from Wittner
These tan boots look like they would be soft and lovely!

What I have found in the shops this year (so far, it's only early days in the season yet), is that there aren't a lot of tall boots around. I wonder if they're not as popular?

Would love to see your boot styling, or hear if you buy anything I've recommended!

Modcloth discount code: get your animal-themed items!

I’ve never met an animal-themed outfit or piece of clothing I didn’t like, so you can imagine my excitement when ModCloth sent me through a discount code to share with you for 20% off animal-inspired styles in their Critter Curiosities Sale. It’s a Halloween sale, and while I know the big day is today here Down Under, it doesn’t need to be Halloween for you to rock a fox bag, or a pair of bunny shoes.

It’s a quick sale (I’ve done the conversion for you if you’re in Brisbane, it started at 5am this morning and ends at 3am on Sunday morning), so because of that time difference, you’ll need to get on this one quickly!

To help you out, here are my top picks from this sale:

Yes, I’m a sucker for animal prints, but I’m also a MASSIVE sucker for seasonal outfits and this Reindeer dress is perfect for Christmas. It’s also one of very few pieces/outfits in this sale that is seasonally appropriate for the Australian Christmas.

They’re bunnies! What more can I say except I realllllllly need these. They also come in black and blue-grey.

Yes, it’s a jumper and yes, it’s a bit hot for the currently Queensland climate, but my goodness, this is cute! As I write this, it’s not yet in stock, so please don’t yell if it’s not in when you click. Sign up for a notification, let me know in the comments and I’ll keep an eye out for other ModCloth codes (they send me quite a few, but I don’t always have a chance to share them!)

If you’re my sister, you should probably look away now.
This is super cute, and given the fact it’s now November and only a few weeks until Christmas, perfect for a stocking filler. In fact, that’s why it’s currently sitting in my ModCloth cart!

I’ve spent a bit of time with a pug lately, and I think, as a result I probably need these socks! Also, they’d be another great stocking-filler.

**

There’s a bunch of other stuff on the site that I desperately want, both for myself and for Christmas gifts, but I’ve limited myself to posting a few. If you want to look at all the items in this sale, click here.

So, pick out your favourites and use the coupon code: TREAT to apply your discount.

*Disclaimer: I am an affiliate for Modcloth which means I may get a small commission when you make a purchase after clicking links from this blog. It’s great if you do go through my blog as the money is put back into producing more great content here. Any questions? Click here.

Pinup on a budget: making wishlists

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

I've just handed in my second pinup column for the next edition of Red Lipstick Pinups Magazine. It’s a column about being a pinup on a budget, and without spoiling it, one of my points to save a bit of money was to write a list of clothes you've fallen in love with and then prioritise buying them. I write things down so that when I've got something to spare, I can remember what I really wanted, instead of getting dazzled by all the choices.

I think, with summer just around the corner, and all my favourite brands’ summer lines starting to make their way over here to Australia, (and going on sale as well!) that it’s time I took my own advice and wrote a bit of a list. Some of these things I might never buy, some of them I might get sooner rather than later. But it helps me not to get dazzled by choices to have put a bit of thought into what I might wear them with, what occasions I have coming up, if I have pageants or photoshoots booked.

Once I started listing I decided that these things are too pretty not to share, so here are a few items that I’m lusting after for my summer wardrobe!

With the exception of Modcloth and brands that I can’t find over here, I mostly shop locally with Australian retailers where possible, so you’ll find that the links go directly to mostly local stores.

PinUp Girl Clothing:

1. 2. 3.

  1. The Birdie dress in blue (link goes to the yellow one, but you could call and ask about the blue!). While probably a bit too heavy and long sleeved for a Queensland summer, this has been on my list for a long time. I’ve held out on the purple ones and finally, I walked into That Shop after a pilates class a few weeks ago (hence the no makeup, gross hair in the picture), and there was my pretty! I put it on laybuy, so this one, in six weeks, will be in my cupboard.
  2. Doris skirt in parrot print.I am bird obsessed, and I LOVE parrots, so I’ve been dreaming of this skirt since the day PUG released pictures of it. I tried it on over the weekend and love the fit and cut; it looks good with or without a petticoat and like all PUG skirts, it’s good quality material.
  3. This orange print skirt is everywhere at the moment, and I adore it. I’ve tried it on, I know the fit is good, and the colour is pretty much unlike anything else in my wardrobe. This is a good choice because I do have a rule about trying to buy things that don’t look exactly like everything else I have in my cupboards!

Modcloth:
1.2. 3.

  1. Places to go, people to see dress in Scottie print:  I am obsessed with Scottie dogs and I've been lusting after this dress for a loooong time. It would go great with the plethora of dog-related accessories I've been collecting for the last couple of years.
  2. Language artist heel in caramel: how adorable are these?!! I love a lace up heel because they go with my stockings in the winter and socks in the spring and with nothing in the summer. A lace up makes them a lot sturdier as well, which is great because I fall down a lot.
  3. Critter-cal mass bag in fox: I have developed a bit of a fox thing and find myself being drawn to fox prints when I see them. This cute bag would go really well with the Bernie Dexter fox dress I've seen at a couple of stores lately.

Steady Clothing

Just one to feature from here, it's the Breakfast club skirt and crop! I feel like I’m the queen of a quirky print, and when I saw this  set on Junebugs and Georgia Peaches, I decided it had to be mine. I’m still looking for someone who stocks this locally, so if you see it in store, tell me!!

This is a new post style for me, and I’m not sure if this is something you want to see. If you've got any thoughts, drop me a comment (by clicking on the teeny tiny word "comment" below this post) and let me know, or you can send me an email, or contact me via Facebook. Your input is really valued!

NB While this is NOT a sponsored post, I am a ModCloth affiliate and earn a small commission for items sold after clicking links in the Modcloth section of this post. Please see my about page for more information.
